Questions about Organic Fish Fertilizer

Below are frequently asked questions about our fertilizer products. If you have a more specific question, please use the contact form and we will be pleased to send you a response.

For what production aspect is the product designed?

By encouraging more natural, unforced growth, SafeTech Organic Fish Fertilizer will enhance the hardiness, taste, and keeping quality of all fruit and vegetables. Plants drawing on nutrients released by the organic cycle will be more resistant to pests and disease. This often is accompanied by significant yield increases which together with the reduction in costs will greatly improve profit.

Exactly how does it work?

SafeTech Organic Fish Fertilizer works in 4 ways:

1. Applied to the soil the pure protein component complete with all minerals and trace elements stimulates the organic life of Ute soil. Fungi, Bacteria, Earthworks etc combine to release locked-up nutrients from organic material and from soil minerals. Nutrients released this way are not forced on the plant as is the case with soluble chemical fertilizers. SafeTech Fish Fertilizer feeds the soil organisms rather than the plant.

2. Applied to plant foliage, the nutrients and organic stimulants are drawn into the plant and translocated to the roots. This boost of nutrition stimulates the roots to exude more sugars. These sugars, in turn, stimulate actinomycetes and other organisms to increase the release of plant available nutrients frrm organic and mineral fractions of the soil.

3. Fish applied to the foliage also encourages a "bloom" of helpful bacteria on the surface of the foliage. Many of these bacteria actively suppress the establishment of fungi such as the mildews.

4. By encouraging natural unforced growth, Organic Fish Fertilizer will assist in raising sugar levels, therefore preventing excessive nitrogen levels in produce — two of the most critical factors in natural pest resistance and improved shelf life.

What factors affect its success?

Organic Fish Fertilizer will give best results when applied in cool conditions. Foliar applications should be made late afternoon or early mornings. Soil applications should be made when the soil is moist.

With what does it interact in the soil?

It is absorbed into soil particles where it is immediately available as rich nutrients for soil organisms.

How soon is it available for uptake?

Foliar applications are immediately absorbed by the leaf. Most soils are gradual. Organic Fish Fertilizer feeds the micro organisms rather than the plant. Release of nutrients by the soil organisms is gradual and prolonged.

What proportion of the product for the plant?

By stimulating the soil biology, Organic Fish Fertilizer makes available may time more nutrients than the fertilizer itself.

Is the product readily leached?

No — the fertilizer is absorbed onto soil particles and does not readily leach.

How readily is the product locked up?

The fertilizer is not chemically locked up in the soil - merely held lightly on the surface of soil particles. Most is assimilated by soil organism within a few hours of application.

At what pH does it work best?

At low pH levels, lime and Organic Fish Fertilizer work well together to improve soil health. The fertilizer stimulates bacteria which improves the activity of lime which further stimulates other bacteria and earthworms as pH increases.

What is the best method of application?

For foliar application, a fine mist spray at dilutions of 100:1 with clean water is desirable. Application to soil can be made using broadcast field jets.

What effect does it have on pH?

The enhanced biological activity can increase the rate of lime activity. Rises in pH are common as are available levels of calcium, magnesium, potassium and trace elements.

Are any soils not suited for Organic Fish Fertilizer?

No — All soils and all crops can benefit.

What is the fertilizer cost per acre per season?

Single foliar applications can cost as little as $6 per acre. The total cost can vary greatly with the condition of the soil and the crops being grown. Costs are offset by reduced use of fungicides, pesticides and soluble fertilizers. Real deficiencies can be corrected by foliar sprays and slow release, gentle, mineral fertilizers such as dolomite and rock phosphate.

What are the resulting environmental effects?

SafeTech Organic Fish Fertilizer is completely safe for the farmer, the crop, and the wider environment. It is certified "A" as an input by the Biological Farmers of Australia and the National Association For Sustainable Agriculture Australia. The fertilizer is now widely used on cricket ovals, public golf courses, bowling greens, and other recreational areas because of its environmentally safety.

The manufacture of Organic Fish Fertilizer recovers material normally buried in landfill dumps and the process produces no odors of liquid effluents. The product is completely friendly to the environment.
